Jim is a leading British actor best known for his role as Mr Carson in the multi award-winning television hit series, Downton Abbey.

Jim commented: “I first became involved with Special Olympics GB through Downton Abbey’s support fundraising for the charity.

“Having met some of the young people who had benefitted from Special Olympics’ work; having listened to their inspiring stories and seen their enthusiasm at first hand, I was honoured to accept the invitation to become an Ambassador.

“I’m looking forward to helping to promote the National Summer Games in Sheffield next year where 2,600 athletes with an intellectual disability will show their abilities and talents.

“I hope that huge numbers will turn out to support these dedicated young people.”

Special Olympics’ activities in Great Britain are proven to positively change the quality of lives of their 8,000 registered athletes.  Almost 1.5 million people in Great Britain (2% of the population) have intellectual disabilities.

Special Olympics GB’s CEO, Karen Wallin, commented: “We are thrilled that Jim has chosen to support us.

“Jim has supported our fund raising events previously and we are delighted to have him on board as an Ambassador of Special Olympics GB.

“Jim has an incredible grasp on the power of sport to create powerful change for vulnerable people within our communities.

“Our athletes will now have Jim’s energy to promote Special Olympics’ year-round training and competition, which is fantastic.”
